It really varies when they come. Refunds are usually sent within 10-15 business days from reciept. You must also factor in the volume of refunds being processed. Usually, at least in my experience, the federal check (larger) comes first, then the state (smaller) check comes. I think it also depends on what state you live in. You may want to try calling the IRS help line or your state help line. When you call, it allows you to check on the status of your refund. You may also want to compare your check with your copy of your refund so you will know which amount is correct. For next year, I would recommend direct deposit, it only takes about 9 days.Hope this helps.

If you mailed your Federal return it normally takes 6 to 8 weeks to process, check your copy of your returns to see which amount of refund matches what is on your returns. More than likely the larger is the Federal and the Small is the State.
To check the status of your Federal Return call 1-800-829-1954 or go to the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html

Depends on where you live and how flush with cash your state government is. Here in IL, the state is kind of slow paying out, and I know IN is even worse. So, there's basically no way of knowing when your check will arrive.

A little additional advice: next year, use direct deposit. You'll speed up your refund by at least a week, maybe more.

Hard to tell. The IRS (federal) at least publishes a schedule, although there are no guarantees on the dates. Most states don't publish a schedule.
