House cats don't directly descend from these larger cats, but rather they share a common ancestor. Some cats evolved into smaller species perhaps, for instance, because where they lived food was scarce and smaller creatures faired better than larger ones. Some grew larger because food was abundant and there were little or no predators where they lived.

The question, although meant in humor, is a case of false logic. It presumes that evolution requires the extinction of the parent species and that the parent species still exists, thus proving evolution false. One might use a similar logic to argue that we can't have descended from our grandmother because she's still alive.

Domestic cats, tigers, leopards and lions all share a common ancestor. The domestic house cat is most closely related to the african wildcat, and was most probably first domesticated in Egypt some 5,000 years ago.

If you thought about it for a second, you would know that there are many types of medium size cats such as the lynx and bobcat, evoultion branches out, when a certain species is in an environment where is it more beneficial to be smaller, such as not enough large prey food sources, they slowly adapt over time to suit their environment.

nicely so a procedures as ferociousness is worried, tigers rank a million.. cos tigers can hunt even adult adult males... they are no1 predators.. maximum feared of all cats..(undergo in ideas saber tooth.. their ancestors..???) i think of leopard comes next.. even leopards attack human beings.. yet canines(those %. hunters...) can contain them.. Lions dont attack at human beings until eventually threatened.. u can walk close to a lion .. if u dont decrease to rubble with it, it does n attack.. it is what many hunters and "animal scientists" and that they are picky approximately prey although lion is larger that leopard... lioness is greater risky than lion.. as a actuality..

lol. The christians ask the "If humans evolved from apes them why are there still apes" question all of the time. It just shows you most of them(99.9999999) slept through science class because if they actually read a book it will tell you that like species shared a common ancestor.

LMAO! Thank you GODzilla!

When I was still blinded by the jesus crew and someone asked that question in relation to apes, it STILL got on my nerves.

It could quite possibly be the most ignorant unintelligent retort creationists ever came up with.

Actually, house cats did not evolve from big cats. Big cats and house cats both evolved from a smaller wild cat. The big cats became bigger and the house cats were domesticated. They were first domesticated by the Egyptians.
