want to serve a soup inside a hollowed out bread roll. Need a recipie for bread that will be tough enough to hold the soup for a while without breaking or going to soft. Any ideas pleas??

usually it is served in a round sourdough loaf. you can sometimes get them at the grocery store or farmers market. you just cut off the top then pull out the center but leave a thick layer at the bottom.

Panera Bread has soup in a bread roll on their menu. They use a hollowed out large sourdough roll.

What you need is a heavy, dense, crusty bread - which is hard to get at home. The crust is formed by steam that is part of the baking process. I have tried several methods of trying to reproduce this at home, with no luck - it's never as crusty as what you can get in the stores.

If you find a way that works, please let me know.
