When you buy the subscription for the Jepp plates - you will receive updates constantly and that is when you replace the old ones. If you get "Q" service you get mass updates rather then the sporadic one or two.

Jeppessen publishes instrument en-route and approach charts which conform to FAA data. That data is updated every 56 days, with interim updates at the mid-point of the cycle. Jeppessen updates charts as they are revised - some approaches remain unchanged for years, but enroutes are usually updated each cycle, and many approaches get minor changes several times a year, at which point Jeppessen updates the specific charts. Thus, there are no "standard" expiration dates for Jeppessen charts, but those which have been updated with more recent releases are no longer valid.

The charts printed by the U.S. Government, on the other hand, are issued every 56 days, with Notam changes at the mid-point of the cycle. Those charts do expire at the end of each cycle, as stated on the chart itself.

The data cycle changes are every 28 days. Jeppesen only reprints charts if there are applicable changes. On the other hand, the FAA charts are printed every 56 days, and therefore expire every 56 days. Jepp charts show the date they were printed, while FAA charts show the actual start and end date for the chart. If you want to see the 28 day cycle dates and which cycle is effective, you can look at this website:

They don't really expire, but you must either add or replace update packages every month to keep them current.
