Best way to get the horse used to the barrels is to have them set up in the arena as you ride him. Use the arena as if they aren't there. Correct him as he shies, not roughly, but just but him back on course. Eventually, he will not worry, then start making circles..figure 8s, etc. Pretty soon he is circling the barrels and not realizing it. YOu have to keep his mind on you and what you are telling him to do. Work him on lead, head set, backing, lead changes, gait changes, etc. If he is real bad, you might have to do this several times. However, I doubt that.

It will take time for your horse to get used to them. Work with him daily - use treats like carrots to coax him into walking as close to the barrel as possible. When he is close, stop and praise him and give him a carrot. Keep doing this daily until he will touch the barrel and will walk around it completely without shying. Do the same thing with the poles and other objects he shies from. Make sure that you can circle the objects from both directions.

Be patient and calm and he will learn to trust you and will learn there is nothing to fear.

Put a feed bucket on top of the barrels make sure that it is one that he will recognize, put a little bit a grain in it and when you take the horse up to the barrel he will learn to associate barrels with treats, eventually "wean" him off the food and just leave an emptie bucket on the barrel eventually you will be able to take the bucket off the barrel. GOOD LUCK!!!

First i might initiate via exclaiming do no longer artwork with relatively barrels till you're relatively waiting for practice runs or you will make your horse bitter and the interest no exciting for the the two considered one of you. with the intention to make a stable barrel horse you may desire to have a horse that is familiar with a thank you to deliver mutually and one that would not drop his shoulder for the duration of turns. Serpentines and parent eights are a large thank you to make a supple and prepared horse this is real in his flow. yet another interest may be to coach pole bending. Pole bending is an stunning exercising to coach your horse to cost his velocity, learn lead variations, and the right thank you to maintain his shoulder up. A horse that drops his shoulder is a lot extra in all probability to knock over stumbling blocks, decelerate, and lose his footing. once you experience your horse is responsive and prepared i might initiate him going around products at play. you've got him turn wood, cones, rocks, or the different impediment. i might in basic terms flow him directly to run the relatively barrel trend 3-4 cases each week. certainly, something extra and you will in basic terms make him a robotic that forgets the basics and in basic terms needs to run whilst a barrel comes into sight. Anticipation simply by unfavourable training is likewise the muse of alley themes.

If he has a stall try putting some barrels in it with him so he will get used to them You might also put some outs or other treats on the barrels! Or if he is pastured you could try making a barrel his only water source that too should work.

first try ground training unsaddle the horse and put on a halter and walk him around the barrel then if that dont work lunge him then try it again for about 5 times and if it still dont work put him in a narrow space or in his stall and make him lay down then bring the barrel into the stall you dont want him to get hurt so if he gose to crazy you may want to find a realy GOOD trainer. Or this Month i am going to a martha jossy thing you should possiably schedule to go to one of her camps some time it may be alot of money but trust me it is worth it GOOD LUCK!
