White discharge usually (not always) indicates an eye irritation more then an infection. Sometimes even a blocked tear duct. It could be pollen, dust, dirt, a stray eye lash. Cleaning out the eyes with eye drops will help. Another method, which I have tested on myself, and used, (but seems to get a bunch of thumbs down), is tea. Make some weak tea, let it cool, soak a bit into a cotton ball, clean around the dogs eyes. If a small amount gets into the dogs eyes, no worries. There is a natural chemical in tea that helps to fight infections. Now I'm talking about regular tea, not some flavored tea with sugar and lemon, and not instant tea. In humans, it even helps fight a sty. Best of luck, have a great day.

You need to contact a vet. It may not be anything serious however, discharge can be caused by distemper. Distemper, if not treated immediately, can result in death.

It is probably the cold weather.I have four dogs and two of them are going through the same thing.I just wipe thier eyes now and then.It is common.

my dog has the same thing. he has an eye problem. im not sure exactly what it is, but you should go see your vet. we have to apply medicine on his eyes daily for the rest of his life to prevent these green/yellowish stuff from appearing.

it could be anything from something in his eye, a scratch on his eye, a mild infection, or just eye-boogers. Take him to the vet and have it checked.

I'm not sure what causes it, but my Dachshund had the same thing a few weeks ago. It cleared up on its own in a few days. Seriously - I think I have the same thing now.
