Douglas Noel Adams (March 11, 1952 – May 11, 2001) — also known as Bop Ad or Bob after his illegible signature, or by his initials DNA — was a British comic radio dramatist and author, most notably of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (HHGG or H2G2); at the time of his death, this series had sold more than fifteen million copies.

btw - My favorite Adams character is John "Wonko The Sane" Watson from the book "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish."

Wonko lives in an inside-out house overlooking the Pacific Ocean. That is, to visit you park on the carpet. There's a sign on the wall that reads, "Come Outside." He considers the rest of the world to be "The Asylum," because it seemed to him that any civilization that had so far lost its head as to need to include a set of detailed instructions for use in a package of toothpicks was no longer a civilization in which he could live and stay sane.

One of my favorite message board posters uses the nic "Outside the Asylum."

Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge in March 1952, educated at Brentwood School, Essex and St John's College, Cambridge where, in 1974 he gained a BA (and later an MA) in English literature.

He was creator of all the various manifestations of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxywhich started life as a BBC Radio 4 series. Since its first airing in March 1978 it has been transformed into a series of best-selling novels, a TV series, a record album, a computer game and several stage adaptations.

Religiously an atheist (this is in religious section), but other than that the best comedic writer of all time and an amazing character. His most popular work is the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. He died a couple years ago, unfortunately :-(

Author of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, an Apple computer enthusiast and a self described "radical atheist". He was an immensely witty man with a very unique sense of humor. He will be missed.

He's the author of the popular "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books. He also wrote about computers, biology, and atheism. His books were always funny and thought-provoking, and I highly recommend them. If you want more info, go to:
