it depends where the blood is, inside or outside of the stool. you could have hemorrhoids if it appears only outside. also, there was some blood in your stool maybe because of its hardness. abrasion when you stool. you probably like to eat lots of meat, beans or anything that gives you iron, which makes your stool hard. you have to eat something that has tons of antioxidants like vegetables, especially greens such as spinach, kale; tomatoes, broccoli, asparagus. garden salad gives you enough antioxidants. Fruits has tons of them too; apples, oranges, grapes, melon, watermelon, all fruits. did i mention green tea is good source of antioxidant too? or just plain tea. antioxidants is not only good for helping your stool soften, but also good for protection against free radicals that causes many diseases i.e. heart disease and cancer.
if vegetables, fruits and tea don't help you , you should go to the doctor. maybe there's an underlying reason why your stool has blood.
this sometimes happen to me when my stool is hard because i didn't eat my veggies and fruits, and drank my tea. once i get back to my veggies, i'm okay. i was never diagnosed with ulcer because of this. usual symptom of ulcer is when your stomach hurts.
here's a link about the same question.
http://health.ivillage.com/digestion/colon/0,,5l95,00.html
and here's a link to hemorrhoids info
http://www.medicinenet.com/hemorrhoids/article.htm
so there's really no exact answer. it all depends on the details.
good luck.

Although I am no doctor I have researched those symptoms in depth because my mother was having the same problems and it got to the point where there was enough blood to make her think something really terrible is happening... In any case I found out that the softer most frequent vowel movements have to deal not only with what you eat and drink, but also with your emotional routine and life schedule as well as hormonal changes that we women always go through. I think that in order for you to really narrow it down you need to start keeping a journal of what you eat, when you eat, how much or little are you resting and how stable is your emotional health. I know you're schedule is very fast phase, but unless you want to take the time to go to the doctor and have him or her run a variety ox exams and diagnose you this is the best way to narrow down the cause of your problems. So here it goes: 1. Take note of your daily fiber intake 2. If you are taking vitamins and/or prescribed medication try to investigate the possible side effects. 3. Keep count of the amount of water you drink 4. Also keep record of your cycle to try to determine whether or not that can be a cause. Also check for possible food allergies (especially lactose intolerance which can cause the softer stools). And check for hemorrhoids which are ruptures in the rectum and small intestine that can cause you to bleed. Or maybe even a vein could be ruptured or it could be one of the many symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS If after you take all of these steps you are still experiencing the same problems, then I will advise you to have your doctor refer you to a gastroenterologist and have him perform a Colonoscopy and an Endoscopy to rule out the possibilities of any life threatening illnesses. I hope this helps......and by the way, My Mom just had both the Colonoscopy and Endoscopy done like two days ago and it was determined that she just has a bad case of Hemorrhoids along with Gastritis and intolerance to Lactose. Good luck and I hope you get better soon

The most common cause of blood in the stools are hemorrhoids. These are kinda like varicose veins around your anus especially considering that your stools are hard. Some questions that might make you consider otherwise are 1. Do you have a family history of colon cancer? 2. Do you have any dyspepsia symptoms that might point to the possibility of maybe a bleeding ulcer? 3. Have you been constipated long? 4. How old are you? 5. Any intake of aspirin or other blood thinners?

If your stools are hard and dark, you may be getting to much iron in your diet. The blood could be from straining while you are having a bowel movement. Increase your water intake, and watch your iron intake for about two weeks. Use a stool softner if needed, not a laxative. If the problem isn't resolved make an appointment with your doctor for further testing. He/She may want to rule out colon cancer.

You could be showing signs of an ulcer. You should really seek the advice of your doctor for testing. It may be nothing more than a hemmorhoid, but the dark stool sounds more like a possible ulcer.

Blood in stool is not that good hun. It's usually a sign of internal injury. A few years ago I started dating somebody who after a while confided in me that he was finding blood in his stool. When he finally did have it checked out one day, and only because he started to feel ill he found out his kidneys were failing. So go to your doctor. Have them check you out and see what's good.
