Um.. take a class.. but to help you could get some childrens books that you know ... like clifford or some classic fairy tales in spanish. and since you no the story, you will be able to learn the words faster.

I think you're best to be thrown right in, without the choice to speak your native language.
I moved from Australia to Croatia, only speaking a little Croatian after 7 years being married to a Cro. After 1 year here, being forced to speak, my language skills have improved more than I thought possible.

go in "that" country who speak "that" language
better than any course
you ll learn it faster nothing better than when you hear one language all day long and talk to native speakers
