I am so sorry to hear about Barbaro's loss in his courageous uphill battle with leg injuries that surpassed all odds for a while. I am now wondering where this beautiful horse's body was laid to rest? Is there a grave site for this horse, or was he cremated? And is there a future for his brother that I understand is in Michael Matz's capable hands?

Plans are now underway as to where Barbaro will be buried. Some options include Churchill Downs, the scene of his greatest moment of glory at the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., and the Jacksons' Lael Farm, just a few miles away from the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center

The Jacksons haven't yet decided. Gretchen said that they are thankful for the offers (for where he could be buried) but they're still pondering.

Churchill Downs (home of the KY Derby) has said that they would be honored to have him. He'd be outside their museum with other Derby winning greats.

However, I think the reason they haven't decided yet is that they're trying to set up a museum for the Pennsylvania area's great horses: Barbaro, Afleet Alex, McDynamo (champion steeplechaser, another son of Barbaro's sire, Dynaformer). They've gotten some interest but they have to be sure it's going to happen before they announce anything, and certainly before they actually bury him.

In a news report on NTRA.com (national thoroughbred racing association), Gretchen said that Barbaro was cremated and that they had considered burying him at their own Lael Farms, but since the public loves him so much they wanted Barbaro to be somewhere people could visit... and it wouldn't feel right to have people coming and going from their stables.

Yes, Michael Matz is currently training Barbaro's half brother, Man in Havana. I assume he's a 2 year old, but I haven't heard much about him. Just after the Preakness they talked about him a little, but apparently he doesn't show the same brilliance that Barbaro did. Also, Barbaro has a full brother, a yearling, currently growing up in Kentucky. Barbaro has another full brother on the way due in, i think, April. And another full brother is in the planning stages: Barbaro's mother is to breed again with Dynaformer sometime later in the spring. According to a news article that I read, the yearling in KY behaves a lot like Barbaro did at that age. The Jacksons are planning to name him after another one of the dogs in the painting that hangs in their house. He'll be ready to start racing next year, so I look forward to the 2009 Triple Crown races.

I heard this on the news, that the the owners haven't yet decided where they will bury Barbaro. Some options include Churchill Downs, not far from the scene of his greatest moment of glory at the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., and the Jacksons' Lael Farm, just a few miles away from the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center.

I believe he is going to be buried at churchill downs, though I've heard rumors that he's already been cremated. (not sure if this is true)
Poor Barbaro. What a great horse! He was adored by millions, including me. Anyone who says he was stupid, go stick your head in a bucket of water and leave it there for a while.

yes, it was tragic for barbaro after the courage he showed with these problems! the doctors who tried to save him deserve to be commended for a great job! there is a special place for horses like him, who won the kentucky derby for a burial! it is the equivelent of a human being buried at ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETARY! HE WILL BE BURIED WITH HONORS! if he has a brother, then he will be in good hands with the people who were associated with barbaro!
