"Louis Pasteur's theory of germs is ridiculous fiction." (Pierre Pachet, Professor of Physiology at Toulouse)

This quote agrees with the "mud to man" theory taught by many today.

Question for unbelievers: In light of your world-view, is this quote correct?
Question for believers: Is it mandatory to believe everything that purports to be "science" (such as the quote above), or should you utilize the cognitive abilities God created you with?

Pilgrim, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Honestly, all you did first make a false assumption about atheists, then quoted a random scientist, which you neglected to mention was a quote from him in 1872. Then you made a false conclusion that has nothing to do with that quote, and then tried to apply it to a group.

To answer your question:NO that quote is incorrect, out of date, and just everything about what you said is wrong.

???

When the theory of germs was first proposed, it did, in fact, seem absurd to many thinking people -- a thing that's so small we can't see it can bring down a big man?

It sounded nutty, but turned out to be spot on.

Only an idiot believes something simply because a scientist says it -- especially things said by scientists long ago, before verification.

There have been many scientists who have said wrong things; that doesn't make science wrong, it makes those particular people wrong in those particular points.

As an atheist, I don't 'believe' in science, I accept science.

In a sense, I agree with the idea that we evolved from chemical elements in the primordial oceans. However, I don't want to portray this as a completely random process, because Darwinian evolution is the exact opposite of random.

It is not necessary to "believe in science" unless, as an ology, you include theology. Otherwise, sciences posit theories which then scientists endeavor to prove. However, they never claim to have discovered absolute truth or to know all there is to know or to have all of the anwers. Science is ever evolving, if you will excuse my term selection. Scientists, largely, are questioners, which is the reason for their interests in the sciences...

You don't have to believe in science, if a scientist claims something you find unbelievable you can do your own research to find out if the scientist is right.

Science is not always right but when it's wrong it will correct itself (eventually...). Christians have had evidence proving them wrong for 2000 years and still haven't changed.

If I screw up and walk face first into a wall...I stop, back up, and try to find the door. You just keep walking into the wall over and over again all the while screaming "This is God's will."

You tell me who's stupid...

hey fundie read this:
10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of other gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of your god.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from lower life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in three gods- the trinity.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" --including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that some spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (4.55 billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a couple of generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs --though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

So...I guess you don't believe in Pasteurizing Milk?? Or since you don't believe in germs you don't vaccinate at all right?

If this is true, then natural selection will take over eventually. Nice knowing you.

Science doesnt require you to beleive anything it encourage you to verify theories by empirical observation and reason. Religion condemns any dissent with orthodoxy.
