Why bother? A Zip utility is included in versions from Windows ME onward.

To zip a file: Right click on file - send to - Zip file
To unzip: Right click on file - extract all
To view zip file: double click on file or left click and choose open

Yes, there are many free zip utilities available. Here are two of my favorite ones. You can do a web search for free zip utilities for many more.
7-zip ( http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z444.exe?download )

IZArc ( http://www.izarc.org/download/IZArc_Setup.exe )
