From the sounds of it, I seriously doubt your BF/SO meant that you were physically intimidating... more likely emotionally intimidating.
Without really knowing the events that led up to the remark, I'd have to guess that your behavior is putting him off somehow. Perhaps you are overbearing. Or smothering him. He is definately feeling pressured by you, and would seem more comfortable at a distance.
So, unless you can get into a meaningful discussion with him to explore just what he meant by intimidating (which in and of itself is a pretty strong word), I'd chalk this one up to experience and move on. And while you are at it, take a look in the mirror and see if there is anything you can identify about yourself and your behavior which might have caused him to say what he did.
Of course, he could be a very timid, shy and weak individual who could be intimidated by just about anything or anyone. Perhaps he just doesn't like confrontation or conflict of any kind. Again, move on. Bigger and better fish out there to fry.

It means that the guy is not man enough to handle feminine prowess. That means that obviously you are extremely attractive and highly outgoing which to this guy is a threat to his masculinity. Too bad! Sounds like you are an extremely fun person to be around and there are too many men out there that would enjoy having such a friend as you.

it could mean that you have a personality that comes on to strong. you may Carrie yourself as a tough gal when your just sweet and kind. i have the same thing when people first meet me they say i look intimidating witch makes them uncomfortable not that its a bad thing to me that just says they wont mess with me and you know what that explains why no one will ever put up a fight with me they think i will win hands down.....

Physicality has little to do with it. He's intimidated by your personality, be it your intelligence, your sense of humour, your bluntness, or anything else. But who cares? It's fun to intimidate guys.

lol i had this said to me all the time
it means you are the real deal the whole package you are what everyman wants and that's scary to some guys cus they think you are perfect. try making them feel good about themselves
it will help them relax and feel more comfortable around you

Either physically you are so attractive that he can't believe you are actually speaking with him, or your personality is so confident, you make your opinion known and not seem to ask others about their opinions right away.
