I'm not aware that He proclaimed a religion. He taught us how to serve Our Father and opened the door for us to go to Our Father.

Jesus did have a religion: He practiced Judaism.

He kept the Mosaic Law
Was Circumsized
Attended the Temple

He was a JEW

He was originally a Jew, but if I recall correctly he had frequent disagreements with the formal religion.

In his late teens he got into a few gateway drugs, wine, hookers, and free love (xtians call it "free will" these days as a cover-up). Eventually the harder drugs fried his brain and he started hearing voices and even at one point started claiming to be Son of God. It would have made a great "Behind the Music", but he wasn't a musician, and didn't recover. He was executed for drug-related crimes by the Romans and Jews......(dramatic pause)....he was only 32 years old.

Later, some obsessed fans wrote fake memoirs and passed them amongst themselves, attempting to capture their fallen pal in immortality. Today, a large cult following continues this tradition under the name: Christianity.

He came from a Jewish family...but had some of his own ideas and reformed Judaism.

Kind of like Buddha coming from a Hindu family, but having his own ideas and reforming it.

Both were spiritual...or they could not have had a religion created (which is the formalized and institutionalized version of what was taught).

Jesus was a Jew that proclaimed to be the promised and awaited messiah. He took all Jewish law and changed it into one law: "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart." Those who follow that Messiah are Messianic Jews. Those who were not Jews in the first place but follow him still are called Gentiles, or 'Christians'--named after Jesus Christ.
