what spanking ban?

2007-02-05 07:42:52 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

I think people will think twice about spanking in public, but probably not at home. I also think the spanking ban is kind of a bad idea. Why should a parent who swats a child on the bottom for something the child did badly, be put into the same catagory as someone who beats their child? We are taking things a little overboard in my opinion. Spanking is not the same as beating. If i see a child run out into the street (as one of my own has before) and the parent is only allowed to tell the child "NO" do you think that child is really going to think "man ill never do that again" its more like they seem to think "oh so thats it....lets do it again" At least for my children that sometime seems to be the case! One of my children at times will be told no, look right at me and do the same thing again, as if testing. A spank will not leave marks, damage the child, truthfully,...the child probably forgets quicker then the parent!

Are you talking about the California spanking ban? I think it's ridiculous and a total waste of tax payer dollars. Leave it to good ole Cali to find a way to further regulate personal choices...that's why I left that *@#***g state! It's a ban on spanking children under 3 years old proposed by Assemblywoman Sally Leiber of Mountain View, CA(who, by the way, doesn't have kids). As far as how will it affect the people, it's too early to tell. I predict it will be an impossible law to enforce and will go by the wayside like laws about "sodomy" and most immigration laws. Besides being totally unable to enforce, it's classified as a misdemeanor which only comes with mild punishment for the offender. So basically, I think it's a nice soapbox for Ms. Leiber to preach from and get her name out there....other than that, there will be no way to enforce her law and therefore a waste of time, money and breath.

it already has affected society. i do not personally hit my kids and, do not agree with it. however if parents are responsible for their kids behavior, then the right TO parent should not be taken away. if that includes a spanking (as long as it's not abusive) then so be it.

Is there a link to this article? Did someone actually pass a law regarding spanking your child? To be honest, I was spanked as a kid, my brothers were...and you know what - we're all still alive and in fact probably better people for it. I see kids who are not properly disciplined growing up to be greedy, spoiled brats such as Paris Hilton who think they can get away with whatever they want. When a teenager ends up in prison for not being able to follow the rules then maybe people's eyes will open up.

I haven't heard of a "spanking ban"; perhaps you should be a little more specific.

Government should stay out of parenting. We have enough spoiled brats now. Just more of the politically correct. Why we now have mentally retarded walking the streets in sub zero temperatures instead of in state schools. Why we now have children shooting in school instead of the discipline they need at home. If they would do their job and get rid of drugs and criminals, our children could grow up in a normal environment. It has only been since government decided they could tell parents how to raise their children that the society has deteriorated.

I think all kids are brats nowadays, they should be put over a knee and spanked.

I didn't knwo about a spanking ban. Oh well, I am all for it. My parents used 'spanking' to give me bruises and it was ok because it was on my bum. Also they chased me around the room with the belt because I wouldn't stand and take a spanking. I got spanked on my bare butt stipped down from the waist down and my brother stripped down form the waist down adn we were 'spanked in turn'. we were spanked till 16 years old and spanked alot when our parents were angry with us. I will be glad if such a ban is up. How many parents have the self control to spank without anger or humiliation

Spanking is totally different from hitting a child it is more like a swat onm the butt. It just kinda shocks the kid and makes them think, "oh they're serious" I was spanked and so were my siblings. We are just fine! If legal I might spank too.
