I am a Christian Theist (but obviously non-traditional from the standpoint of many Christian answerers here.
A basic tenant of my faith states:
"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where or what they may."
Is this teaching offencive to anyone? Why?
My only clarification is that I already know it is offencive to some "Christian" sects, I don't really understand why, as it is consistant with the teaching of Christ but I understand it still the same. I am looking for any others whom it is offencive to and their rational.
I believe all should respected in their belief in so far as they act according to that which they profess (that includes Atheism, although I understand it is not a belief based concept).

rezaney: Agreed. this is one of thirteen tenets of faith that I and true followers of our faith suscribe to. I just find it odd that so many of professed Christian faith are so judgemental and intollerant of others. It would seem to me that that is incompatible with Christ's teachings.

JeanMarie RDH: Is that consistant with your faith, to judge based on such limited information? That is not of the teachings of Christ either. Did I make infereance that I do not follow the bible? No. Only that I am tollorant of others. Does the bible not admonish people to study for themselves then take what they belive to be true before God for confirmation? Yes.

Your faith is not offensive to me.
It's funny that it should be offensive to other Christians. Personally I think that those Christians would find anything that doesn't agree with them "offensive." The fundamentalist religious climate of today tends to breed this notion of "I'm right, you're wrong, and you're going to Hell." Any kind of questioning, individual thought, or diversity is stamped out. Instead there's a herd mentality arising from fear and uncertainty about the world we live in.
It's sad. I wish more Christians (and people in general) were like you. Respect.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
The bible says that God said, 'My ways are not your ways" So worshiping God "according to the dictates of you own conscience" is taking a chance to say the least.
If you don't follow the bible what is your guide? I guess as you said your own conscience. What if your conscience is immoral? What if you don't have much of a conscience? Does just about anything go? Or do you just follow the laws and morality of society?
In ancient times people sacrificed babies to put in the foundations of their houses for good luck. This was accepted by society. See my point?
Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the father accept through me" Does this go along with your teaching? If it doesn't was Jesus a liar? Or was this not part of the bible you believe. How do you choose what to believe of the bible, what parts are true. I see many holes in your belief system.
Just my opinion.
God bless you in your search,

Personally I don't take offense as you put it regarding such things and if God has given all the gift of free will then who am I to attempt to deny anyone that right.
Nonetheless I am complelled to point a few important fundemental principles as I understand them, which I think might help you in your walk with Him.
1. Christian's are called Christian because they follow Christ Jesus. If Christ is not Lord of our lives then we are not Christian.
2. Christian's know what God expects from them from following His word. Jesus is the word made flesh i.e. the Bible. It is not an essembled collection of preferences that we choose to suit ourselves.
3. Indeed it is a privilege to worship God in Oh So many differrent ways and if we can do this together in unity then God is all the more glorified in it.
4. God sees only one church not a conglomeration of different doctrines and His church is all important to Him. It was for His church that he sent His only son Jesus to die on the cross for us. He is not impressed with the division and disunity that has crept into His body.
I don't fundementally disagree with what you have said but it does rather smack of your own personal view, your own personal Christian sect. If I'm wrong then I apologise. But if I'm right then perhaps you feel you don't need to be part of a church or perhaps you've not found one you like. Whatever your situation if you are not part of a Bible believing group of Christians then you are missing out on the best that God has for you.

There may be some forms of worship that would be offensive to most all of us. Like the baby killers of cheopis (misspelled on purpose) but no such practices are presently known in north America. Other than practices that harm others I see no contention with any religion although I may not accept their teachings in my life.

right here is my opinion, in accordance with comparing Scripture with Scripture and additionally from examining various books on the challenge. a million, Paul wrote a million Thessalonians extremely early, probable 5-10 years earlier the Corinthian letters. In a million Thessalonians, the context of financial disaster 4 is the believing ineffective whose bodies "slept" in the floor. What Paul wrote in a million Thessalonians 4:sixteen is easily ideal--whilst Jesus returns, in the air, for His saints, the ineffective will upward push first, and, in accordance to the subsequent verse, we who're alive and final will connect them, and so we are able to be with the Lord continually. Did you examine the subsequent various verses, or the comprehensive context? 2. Now in 2 Corinthians 5, Paul is discussing the guy believer and what occurs whilst a believer dies. The believer is going to be with the Lord. lower back, i'm specific you observed the verse that stated if Paul replace into absent from the Lord, he replace into in the physique, and so on. So there is not any contradiction, those verses reflect 2 different factors of a believer's dying, could a believer die earlier the Rapture. The physique is going into the floor and the soul/spirit is going to be with the Lord. whilst the Rapture comes, the physique is raised, and joined to the soul and spirit, and is going to Heaven.

From the early origins of organized religion, followers have branched out due to differences in beliefs. Don't worry what other people think unless you care specifically about them. Remember that a spiritual journey is very personal and we all must find our own path.

I don't find it offensive. It has been a basic tenet of American thought until recently.
Freedom OF Religion used to be a basic American belief.
It has now become Freedom FROM Religion, and there is an all out attack from our society on Christians and Christianity.

That is not a Christian belief, as the Bible gives instruction on who and how to worship.
It is, however, an American ideal which Christians and everyone else should adhere to.

I would feel more comfortable with it if somewhere in your 'tenant' you included the word of God and obeying His laws. I don't feel he is an each to his own liking kind of God. He definitely wants to be the One and Only.

It doesn't offend me. I mean, basically it just says that people who believe in God - cool. People that don't believe in God - cool. Works from where I'm sitting. Tell those who get offended to bug off!
