I know someone who has 2 finches a male and a female. Just recently they layed 2 eggs and they hatched into baby birds. They are planning on keeping them in the same cage together even when they get older. I was wondering if this could cause an inbreeding problem? Or if the parents will eventully try to kick the babies out? Any other bird breeding info I could tell them would be helpful as they were not planning on the birds having babies and they don't know very much at all. Thanks!!

In the future, you can remove any eggs and either replace them with plastic dummy eggs, or boil them to remove the possibility of them hatching. You can also remove the nests so the desire to lay eggs is lessened. You can also seperate the males from the females.

Hi there. Well, inbreeding is possible. Some say father/daughter or mother/son can produce healthy offspring. There tends to be more genetic problems if sister/brother mate. Personally, I would separate the youngsters once the parents have weaned them.Since egg laying and brooding takes a lot of energy and nutrients, hard cooked egg with crumbled shell can help with the needed protein and calcium. Many recommend a pellet food for finches and limiting seeds to 5-10%, fruits and veggies 10% excluding avocado which can be toxic. I hope they have a great experience and you have a great year.

if the finches are in and aviary them there wont be a problem with the birds fighting as the parent want them to leave as far as inbreeding go's I'm not sure with finches but I never had any problems with my budgies

The birds will continue to breed, and if no other babies are wanted (I should hope not) then they will need to be separated. Really, inbreeding should not be allowed to occur.
