Yes, it is good. Though I only recommend that you perform a clean install when upgrading to Vista. Or, you can install it to a different partition or a second hard drive without wiping your existing installation of XP.

That being said, a clean install of Vista will take just about 30 minutes and you will find most of your hardware working right after the install. Though, as far as the graphics drivers go, you should replace those with one from the manufacturer but everything else should be good.

You might have to find drivers for SATA and RAID controllers yourself. If those devices don't install by default go to Control Panel > Windows Update and see if it can find them. If not, you'll have to pray the manufacturer has Vista drivers. Vista found the drivers for me so I can't complain. The only thing it didn't find was my Creative X-Fi card (Creative has drivers) and my WiFi card which required me to use the XP drivers, the installer crashed half way through the install because they really weren't compatible with Vista but it laid the files out so that Vista found them and installed the drivers.

Lexmark printers are going to be your real problem in Vista, hardly any of them have Vista drivers ready so attempt to use the XP drivers, I got mine working on my desktop but even though I did the very same thing, they didn't take on my laptop.

If you are used to using freeware firewalls on your system, you are out of luck. Not a one works under Vista, not ZoneAlarm, Comodo, Filescab, Sygate, none of them. The only third party firewalls that do work under Vista are those that come with McAfee or Norton. And those are also the only security suites that I know to run under Vista as well.

nvidia SLi does not yet work under Vista, save for the 8 series cards so if you are using a 6 or 7 series card in SLi mode, they will work but only as single cards. SLi drivers are STILL in the works.

If you have more questions about your hardware or programs I suggest you run the Vista Upgrade Advisor, it will spot potential problems before you install Vista, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

You must have a dedicated graphics card with 128MB of memory to take full advantage of the new Aero Glass interface which only comes with Home Premium and above, it DOES NOT come with Home Basic.

Vista Transformation Pack will give to your Windows XP system the new and cool look of Microsoft's future operating system: Windows Vista. The pack changes most of the system icons, skins and toolbars and also adds new enhancements to your desktop such as a dock bar or a different system tray clock

Yes I use it. No, it doesn't work well. I have several products that won't install and others that won't run (like my Pinnacle video editing software). I have 100+ COM errors. I've crashed IE, Windows Explorer and Vista itself more than once. It's an awful memory hog. It's driving me insane. It looks pretty, but if I wanted pretty I could buy a Mac and get pretty and functional.

I don't have Vista. But, I'm pretty sure it goes on well. You can probably go to Circuit City and they might be able to let you try on one of there computers down there.
I tried to help.

Thank You,

One of my friends used it on an AMD 2200+ PC. He told me that it is very fancy and good (not useful for geeks and nerds). The other friend of mine having a Celeron PC simply discouraged me by reporting that his PC became very slow when he installed it.
