..or some other place I've overlooked. I need an opinion! First I'm looking for a cheap/reasonable priced hotel? Second I'm looking for something close to shopping? Third I'm looking for something close to Dance places? Fourth... to sum it all up I want to be in the middle of things but still pay little.

Well, both are in a very nice area, which is Condado... the price of both hotels is very reasonable considering the area in which they are located; probably is one of the areas with best hotels in PR plus an A++++ (really expensive) area to live. So, you will have everything close... malls, good food, and really nice places to dance... if you know where to look.

Both are pretty close to the Old San Juan area which is an A+ to hang out and party (again, if you know where to go). Personally, I will prefer the San Juan Beach, just because is right across the Condado beach.

Other hotels? There are other hotels in other parts of San Juan and the rest of the island that are definitely more beautiful that those two, with more amenities, better service and probably cheaper, but not as close to all the things you mentioned.

I'd choose the San Juan Beach Hotel. It's in the Condado area which is really nice. There is also a hotel not to far away called Hotel Miramar which is located on Ponce DeLeon Avenue. I've stayed here a couple times and found it to be pretty comfortable. You can check out their website at www.miramarhotelpr.com.

If you want to be in the "middle of things" then you probably have to settle for the condado/escambron beach area. At night time and week ends is almost like TImes Square in NYC.You will not find anything in that area under $100. during the tourist season.
There are very nice accomodations a little further away (10 min. by car) in the Miramar area which is also a relatively safe area in PR. Good Luck
