christians need to drop the whole "taking out of context" argument? its obvious they dont even bother opening their bible to read the surrounding text when they use this argument. i think its about time they come up with a new way to "beat around the bush" and avoid a potential debate with another meaningless statement.

Christians have oh so many wonderful ways to make arguments. Ha! It's ridiculous, I agree. My goal here is to meet one, just one, Christian who makes a rational argument, that is objective, and doesn't use the Bible or God as some malleable thing.

Yes, yes I do. They do that when they're out of defenses. If you explain the context they'll just ignore you or deny it. It is an attempt to deflect an argument without acknowledging it. It's one of the reasons I just don't consider it worth bothering with to argue with these people anymore.

here are a list of arguments christians need to drop: its not a religion; its a relationship, those arent true christians, youre taking it out of context, satan has blinded you, we're not perfect, just forgiven (isnt that a rude one), and christians are being persecuted. there might be more but this is a start.

I think they should do a little more studying. And if the writers of the Bible would have been better writers, then there wouldn't be anyone taking anything out of context.

Blessed Be.

no.

Example, Jesus says "But I say to you, do not resist an evil person" in Mat 5:39

That would seem odd...

If you didn't read the context.

36And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.

I definitely agree. Most of the don't even read their own bibles, if the actually set down and studied it, there'd be a lot less Christians!

Of course every xian is a master linguist who can ramble on about how we evil atheists are misinterpreting things because in Greek and Hebrew and Latin and blah blah blah it really means something totally different.

Trash is trash in any language.
