Navy reserves, you go through the basic trainings then you attend weekend training. Joining the Navy means, going through basic training and then service the years you joined for. I believe you have a 6 years commitment so if you do 4 years active duty, you will be in the Navy reserve for another 2 years. Do not forget that you select the Navy Reserve, you may be called to active duty anytime they may have need for you.

The regular Navy is regular Navy. You work for the Navy every day. The Naval reserve is a part time job. After boot camp you work for the Navy two weeks a year and one weekend every month.

Navy reserve means, you will only go on active duty once there is a shortage or men or when they need you. In Navy, you will be shipped after boot camp.

Navy is full time (i.e. you can make a full career out of it). Navy Reserve is where you serve when they need you (in addition to the obligatory pre-set times), otherwise you just go about your normal, everyday job.

The reserve stays home and pretends to do stuff just encase its needed. The navy goes out and does it everyday without asking if it should or if its right.
