Worst resort I've ever been to was Brighton. I come from a seaside town and I was expecting the all-famous Brighton to have sparkling sea and sand. It only has stones and pebbles. I've never been back.

Sunderland on the other hand, while it is never rated as a resort has three beautiful beaches, miles of sand with gorgeously clear water. We have a fair, amusements, if that's what you like, hotels and guest houses. One of our most famous B&Bs ... Jean's is just over the road from the sea. We have prom side facilities and even a huge supermarket on the front too. Just up the road you have South Shields which also has absolutely marvelous sea front attractions and if you're a shopaholic, the North East has ..... THE METROCENTRE, enjoy Metroland while you can because I think I heard they're closing it down.

I think that some of the BEST beaches in Britain are to be found on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. It has some wonderful places to visit like Dunluce Castle which over looks the long golden beach at the Whiterocks near Portrush. On a sunny day it is fantastic. The Giants' Causeway is also worth seeing. Hope you find a nice beach to sun yourself!!!!!

Best is Brighton - good bars and restuarants. Lots to do for kids on the pier etc. Close to london

Worst is Margate - ages to get there and f**k all to do when you get there. Food is nasty!

Other good ones - blackpool and Scarborough. In fact Brighton and Scarborough share my top prize.

As for the answer regarding Hastings. I've never been there myself but I love this site about living there :
