it depends how much you care....and how much they care....you know if you are gonna break someones heart when you leave them, if you know you are do it gently (in person and nicely), if you know they dont really care either then do it however (they have prolly been waitin for it) you can't ask a question like this and expect one perfect answer all relationships are different

the way to break up with your lover is to make sure you do it face to face because over the phone or making a friend do it is not the way, you have to make sure you just tell me that you moved on and that you wanna still be friends dont try to be all tough about it work with her she is a girl and girls hearts get broken easy so just go up to he hold her hands or somthing and just say you moved on

Peaches: the cruelest way to break up with someone is to do what you said: "tell him or her that you need time alone and need to think ". That's not a breakup at all, that's stringing someone along. It's a cop-out because it means you don't have to face up to breaking up with them, but you can tell yourself you did. If you're going to break up with someone don't sugar-coat it. Be nice by all means, but don't give them some kind of shyte "I'm not really breaking up with you but I am" kind of line. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind otherwise the other person won't realise it's over and if they really love you then they'll waste their time waiting for you. If you care, then be honest with them - set them free and let them move on.

tell him or her that you need time alone and need to think and if they cant except that then he or she did not really love you if your lover wants you to be happy then he or she should understand. and dont do over the phone. do it in person. but if you are breaking up with him or her for someone else shame, shame , shame just kidding what ever makes you happy!!
