Anyone have any info on the pub mentioned...? charachter, locals, etc...?

Couldn't believe it when I saw this question!
Yes, I know it very well. Used to drink in there, the New Inn, which is virtually opposite the 'Barley'. And also the Punch Bowl, opposite side of the road, same side as New Inn, but 75 yards the other way!
It's an ok pub, no frills. Pretty much a pub for the local 'well heeled', or so they think. The Punch Bowl is much more livelier. But watch out friday-saturday nights, as anywhere. It can get very 'territorial'..!
The Plough just up the road off Hill st is much better.
But if it's a quiet afternoon drink you want, then probably the Barley is best.
