In my opinion two, you can't be there all the time and it gives them someone to play with. Cats who live in social groups behave different than solitary cats. Plus I get hours of entertainment watching them chasing each other around and wrestling. I never get tired of it.

If you are getting kittens, I definitely recommend you get two. Even though cats are independent and can very well get along without humans, they sometimes get lonely. If you are gone most of the day, the two of them can play together and keep each other company while you are away! Households with two felines often have very fit cats, as good competition arises at mealtimes. You should probably get a male and a female, as there will be less fights between them at first. Two males or two females are very territorial, and one will very likely dominate the other.

I definitely prefer having two cats, particularly if they are litter mates. They can keep each other company while I'm not at home, and don't become quite so attached to me in the sense of being REALLY dependent. I adopted two litter mates about 20 years ago, give or take, and ever since then, I've had two cats at a time.

Depends on if your getting them from the same place. If they are already together, I'd take 2 at once. If they are kittens, doesn't matter either way. If adults, it causes alot of stress to introduce cats that don't know each other. There is alot of hissing and batting but eventually they should get to like one another.

Depends on the cat. Don't get 2 females, though. Even if there related. It's best to get 1 male and 1 female.

If you have a full time job or are a full time student then definitely get two. If you live in a busy household where someone is almost always in the house, then one will be fine and not get too lonely or bored.

I would suggest that if you want more than one to get them at the same time. If you get one at a time sometimes the first one gets territorial and can make it miserable for the second one.
Good luck.

Definitely get two, preferably littermates. If you get only one, and you are gone all day, you will have one very bored, lonely, destructive kitty cat.
