As a former military man, I believe that if America was really attacked, and all of our family and friends lives were in danger, we would not need a draft. As shown in WWII, many men joined up, when they could envision Germany and Japan posing a true threat to us.

But, when you see the results of the Iraq war, and our current president beating his war drum, you gotta think allot about what you want to do. I mean vote for a draft or not.

Trying to bring back the draft would most likely cause the same action that stopped it in the first place.

Military Draft? what about a Civic draft ? that all young people give 2 years of some sort of service back to the country, wether it be joining the military of doing local community service or national service. I strongly feel that the majority of Americans no longer feel any connection, pride, or appreciation for the country we live in, we take most of our freedoms for granted without realizing the prices that countless generations have paid for them to be enjoyed. Maybe the 2 years of local community service could pay for the tuition to a 4 year state college? I don't know but I think the citizens of this country need to give back more to the country, remember what President Kennedy said, ask not what this country can do for you but what you can do for this country! I am soldier serving in Iraq, I don't want to be fighting with someone who doesn't want to fight for the US.

Peter M. That would be a valid point if you could come up with a group or maybe even just one or two Republicans who backed a draft. I on the other hand can hand you Hillary and Rangel who have both proposed a return to the draft.

It is not happening. The only thing that could bring a draft is World War III.

Heck yeah, I did 8 years active duty and I think everyone reguardless of sex should have to do a minimum of 2 years in the military like Israel does.

the draft is not something that Bushie is talking about, its the Dems who talk about that because they are trying to scare American youth into being selfish cowards, that is, trying to get them alarmed at the horrible idea that they might have to serve someone else and get in shape. Everyone knows that there is warrior group in the US and thank god its there because there are plenty of fat, little white guys who are scared pink that they might have to sack up and do something manly. Its a scare tactic and you are either spreading or afraid of it.
