According to Celtic mythology (where the myth of Santa came from ) the "Holly King"-or Santa Claus does die every year at the spring equinox (or in some traditions the summer solstice) when he battles the Oak King who rules for the summer. Then he returns to life after he battles the Oak King at the autumnal equinox.
