When I look in a mirror I think my abs look better then when I look down at my own abs. Does the mirror make them look better or does my angle make them look worse?

Look in the mirror and that's what we see!

When I look down at myself I see fat, but when I look in the mirror it does not look that bad so I do not know the answer.
But if I had to guess I would say the mirror is how other people see you.

when people look in the mirror they are not only looking younger but skinnier. take a video camera or a regular camera shot and look at the developed picture. Henry Ford would not buy a hat until his photographer took a picture of him from several angles and he could see what he really looked in it>

It's all about the angle and lighting, just as in photos. So, yes, your abs will appear to be more defined if you are looking at your reflection straight on with overhead lighting.
