If a dog, how long should you wait until trying for a family? And if a child, how old should the child be before getting a dog?
This question is from the perspective of the two getting along and there being enough respect between them (behavior on both their parts).

i would say to have the child first. the reason being that dogs seem to adapt to their surroundings...where as if you already had the dog for a while, and then bring a baby, the outcome will be unknown. Some dogs experience jelousy, which could possibly make the dog aggressive! good luck!

I'd say have a child first. We got a dog when my son was 6 months old but that didnt work out it was like having 2 babies. My son is now almost 2 and we got a dog and its working out much better. They are best of pals and follow each other every where.

I'd say dog first. the dog will get used to the house and be a part of the family when the baby is born. from day one they will be loyal to the kid.
(my aunt's dog will refuse food to lay next to my little cousins play-pin and 'watch' her)
if the kid comes first you have to raise the child while integrating the dog. I don't think the loyalty will be as strong or a fast.

It is better to have your child first then later get a dog. Some dogs dont adjust to babies that easily and your child could be allergic so its better to wait on the dog.

Children are great but I have to recommend getting a dog first. Dogs don't grow up, commit acts contrary to those they were taught when small puppies, and they stay by your side as a best friend until they die, protecting their owners and creating smiles along the way. Children grow up, leave home, go against their parents, sometimes never looking back. When they are little they step on your toes and when they grow up, they often step on your heart.

Well we had children, first. Good thing too. Come to find out our youngest is allergic to dogs!

i think the dog should definatly come first for about a year then try for a baby
