IM 17 and I want to enlist in the marines but havent gone to a recruiter yet. so its really helpful if someone can give me some details on marines bootcamp, where are the bases, the training. I didnt tell my parents about it yet . The education benefits are good but thats not why i want to join ,its becouse I like the discipline and its very honorable plus millitary experience is great becouse i plan on becoming a cop but some people I told dont think that the marine corps is a good for women who want to be in the millitary.
Are there alot of women in the marines? Hows basic training? MOS?

MOS is the most important thing!!!! learn about all of them!! think about it for a long time before you decide wich one!!! dont listen to much to the recruiter as he will try to sweet-talk you into a particular MOS, they do this cause is what they at the moment NOT because is good for you, they will even offer you bonuses for certain MOSs DONT TAKE ANY OF THAT !!! go with the MOS of your choice.

IF you want to be a cop, then it may be a good idea to become an MP (miltary police) but then again DO WHAT YOU WANT!!

About bootcamp? well nothing you read or hear will help you or get you ready it will be hard no matter what what.
learn some DRILL moves, it wont make it easy but it will give you an advantage over the rest of the recruits.

theres a fair number of girls in the marines and they all go to bootcamp in paris island north carolina, is full of sandfleas but theres no hills so the hiking wont be so hard.

Women in the military is the same in every branch. So don't worry about that, however I would look into every branch before jumping to a decision.

If you live on the East coast you will go to Parris Island, South Carolina. If you live on the West you will go to San Diego, California. After that you will go to MCT, which teaches you basic infantry skills that every Marine must learn. Either in California or North Carolina. Then you go to your MOS school which can be and a lot of different places across the country. It just depends on the job.

There are plenty of women in the Marines, you won't be alone. Boot camp is going to be hard, but if you prepare for it it won't be as hard.

Note to above: You aren't going to get treated any better in the Air Force or Navy. It is all the same. Marine boot camp is 13 weeks and the toughest in the US military.

First of all, let me say that you should be speaking to your parents about this. Then let me say this. The Marines are a great organization and should recieve your consideration fully. However, if you are looking for a law enforcement career on the outside, the Coast Guard is a great avenue to get a foot in the door. There are many L.E. missions to choose from and the training is performed at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. You could also consider the Academy if you are good at sports and have a good GPA. A great education would open up many options if you decided to leave. I work with many prior Coasties and Reservist who are cops and troopers. Worth looking into all of the services. Make your choice wisely.

Before going you have to do it for you NO one else also check out other branches. Tell you parents they will want to talk to you about it you still there child no matter what. If and when you go its 5 years plus in the USMC. That's a long time to be in something. There is not a lot of woman in the USMC. I know that in the Navy for one woman there are nine men. Basic is hard but it depends on how hard you make it. Mos is you job for the Corps.Good Luck

Marines is actually the worst branch for women to go into as far as advancement and respect towards. The Navy and the Air Force are better. There are not a lot of women in the Marines and it is considered a part of the Navy. Basic should be about 9 weeks long plus your P-Dyas or Processing days. I was raised and went into the Navy.

So apparently people don't know you are a woman. You will go to Parris Island. That is where all women go regardless of where they live. USMC bootcamp is the longest nad hardest bootcamp of all of the branches of the military. It is also the hardest branch to get into. Just remember, when you go into the recruiters office, nothing is wrong with you, your are perfect. They can't get your medical records, no matter what they tell you

Pretty much got a load of good answers from everybody. The Marines are a great outfit for men or women, regardless of service branch, it is what you make of it.

Be careful, MP vs Law Enforcement. You want Law Enforcement.

Well look at it this way. The Air force can provide intense training though not as tough as marine boot camp. When you are done with BMT, the Air Force will treat you with dignity and respect. We've had friends in all branches and we hear it over and over again that they wish they had joined the Air Force. When you graduate BMT marine style. The way they treated at basic is the same way they are going to treat you everyday for the rest of your enlistment. If you're up for that. Go for it. But I hear from so many people even on the base here, wish they were USAF

Everyone gave you some great answers but I have to say in regards to one. Woman are respected just as much as the men in the Marine Corps. Of course you will get dis-respected sometimes but so do the males, it is a part of life. Good luck.

ive heard from a few girls that have tried that its harder on girls cause they act like you shouldnt be there sometimes but that it makes it much sweeter when you show them girls are just as tough and you are just as good as the boys are but i have also heard that statistically the instances of assault are higher in the marines and the navy on women
