Hi, I am a pharmacist, and no, you do not need to go to medical school. You can apply to any pharmacy school in the United States (if that's where you are planning to go to school).
In order to become a licensed pharmacist today, you need to complete 6 years of school. Your first 2 years are considered your "pre-professional years" and your last 4 years of school are considered your "professional years". In the first 2 years, you will complete all of your typical pre-requisites that you get in college. You will take classes like Biology I, Chemistry I, English 101, and so forth. Your third year in school is the most crucial year. This is the backbone for all of your pharmacology and pharmaceutics classes. In this year, you will take classes like Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Calculations. This is also the mentally toughest year that you will complete. Just to let you know, be especially prepared to study if you decide to go to pharmacy school...it's not easy!!! I hope that I have answered your question!!

OH MY GOSH, I can't believe people think it only takes 2 years to be a pharmacist!!!!!!
It's at least 6 years. 2 years undergrad, and 4 years in a doctor of pharmacy program. actually there are very few students that get into pharmacy school after two years. many pharmacy students have prior baccalaureate's degrees in chemistry or biology which takes 4 years in itself.

I don't think so. in the Philippines, there are colleges and universities that are not considered as pharmacy schools, but they offer good education in the field of pharmacy. Just like University of Santo Tomas in Manila. As a result, many students go to such schools since they are "centers of excellence" for pharmacy.

I had a 4 year degree in Chemistry and then I applied to pharmacy school and that was another 4 years that ended with a PharmD.

I think 99 percent of my class had a degree. I went to the University of Texas in Austin, it sucked and I hated it.

Sounds like it takes 6-8 years (including undergraduate studies) to become a pharmacist. No, you don't need to go to med school, but you do need to go to pharmacy school, which is similar in it's intensity.

Hope this helps...
