ANY CREATIVE IDEAS??

Should we just make it a little earlier in the day? The only thing is it's going to be warm outside. The later the better.

I should mention that we DO plan on having a tent, but the funds are low so we're looking to cut back. We're paying for everything ourselves and we have thought of ways to cut back on other things as well.

If you would like to light up the area from the top,as if you had a light roof, get yours some heavy fishing line, you can use garlands or x-mas lights over the setting. The fishing line would be invisible, but very effective. You will need point " A" and point "B". How else would you hang it? Same with the tent , you can criss cross the lights from one pole to the other and have a well lit tent. Once you do one strand your imagination will go wild!! I tried it from a movie setting i saw in New York. Have Fun!

Believe it or not?... Christmas lights... having said that, MANY of your friends and relatives may have white lights... white only lights. It will be easy to string a few extension cords around the perimeter of the yard and in the bushes and just use the white lights to light the area. The mini lights are really the best bet as they are gentle lighting. You can add a couple of spot lights on a shed-top or attached to the roof temporarily to light a larger area. The higher off the ground the better for floods or spots... send little Joey up a tree with a nail and a flood light... just tack it and remove it after... but most of this can be done WELL in advance, tested and checked and moved for ambience/affect/focus and NOT be crass or a bother to the guests. You can have the yard look like a ballroom in no time... oh ya, forgot... make sure you BORROW all the lights... really cost effective and folks like to participate in these things without having to do much of anything.

I have seen some nice lamps that look like lanterns and are electric, but have a dimmer switch. So if you find something like that that you like the looks of, you wouldn't have to have glaring light, but could set it however it looked good. I know candles are hard to use outside, because the wind might decide to attend the wedding. There are some glass hurricane lamps that might work. Do you have electricity there? Also stringing strings of colored lights or little paper lamps is festive and adds light. You could even dim the lights for mood once all your guests are seated and raise the light a bit when they are walking around again for safety. It is best not to rely one one source, then if one fails you will have the other.
If you have time, have your guests help you figure it out before the wedding.

All around the out side of the tent you could use tiki torches. Use large candles for center pieces. Or just cut corners somewhere else to string up white lights. Oh have a fire extinguisher on hand.

Can you be sure of good weather? If not I'd keep the tent. I'd cut back on non essentials like party favours and endless pieces of stationary - I did all mine online at www.vistaprint.com for £50! Also if you are having a photographer why bother with cameras on the table?

Pick an evening a few days before a full moon when the moon will be rising just as you party into the night.
