The Christmas lights are a great idea, add wonderful ambiance, and are a definite must do. However, you're going to need more light than that, you'll need some additional ambient (all over) lighting, and possibly even spot lighting on tables and the dance floor. I would avoid candles, because you're not going to get much light from them, you'll achieve the same effect with the Christmas lights, they tend to blow out if it's breezy, and they're a fire hazard. If you're renting a tent, the rental company should have additional lighting ideas for you, contact them. Or, even Sam's or Costco should start having outdoor lights out right about now, or in the next few weeks, look around there. Best of luck to you!

I would do shepherds hooks with lanterns hanging from them, or you can plant really tall stakes in the ground and run white christmas lights from them!! I would say go for the candle/lantern idea, but it would be a bit more pricy since you'd need more of them than if you used the xmas lights...

All of the above are great ideas - I would add those lanterns you get at the home improvement store that stick in the ground (not sure what they call them) and maybe a flood light or two or three.

Most original would be to use torches if you like.........they cannot be expensive and create a nice and romantic atmosphere.
Mostly torches emit natural light, like candles, and people look natural in natural light. You do want to look like you really are at your wedding right? Forget the Christmas lights.....too many colors. And torches means no electricity bill, too!

I agree on the Christmas lights. Get some clear ones and put them on trees, bushes, any buildings, etc. It could make a great effect! Also if you don't think this is too cheesy, you could use tiki torches. It sortof depends on the formality. Good luck!

Break out your Christmas lights! String tons of strands around! Not only will it be festive, but it'll be cheap! Borrow from family & friends as well...just keep track of what you borrowed from whom.
Have fun!
