Once we lose sight of this then we have lost any recognisable sanity haven't we?

Believe whatever you want, but what I am saying is keep in mind the possibility that what you believe in may not be true. we can believe in anything through faith alone ... let's face it , whatever it may be somebody somewhwere probably believes in it...

bubba: At least try to get a grip! belief does not equal truth, not by a long shot.

I will answer your 2nd question first. Yes I think that we have lost all recognizable sanity if and/or when we lose sight of this concept.

If there is no evidence, or weak evidence, we should at least be open to the possibility that what we believe is not true. This seems to be common sense to everyone, religious or not, UNTIL it is applied to religion.

Faith that is not based on Fact is fantacy... for those of The True Christian Faith God is The Fact.... we know with absolute certainty that God is Fact... so... we have Faith that what he instructs us to do is right...... just as a childs faith in what it's parents tell is true...untill that faith is broken.... but with God there will never be an act of God that can break the Faith a True Christian has in God... God IS The Truth... God is The Fact

And I would say that if you believe that what you supposedly accept on faith is possibly wrong, then you don't have faith in it at all. It's like a man who gets on a plane but refuses to sit down in the seat because he just isn't sure the plane could hold all of his weight. You're either "on board" or you aren't. God says we are to "have faith" not "half-faith".

I try not to believe anything...and keep my faith to a minimum.

I investigate and try to find out through my own experience what is true. Then it is no longer belief or faith, but knowing.

I know God exists. I know Love, Truth, Harmony, and Unity are the ways of God.

Praise be to Allaah.

What you are asking about is called "Aqeedah" in Islam.

Aqeedah refers to those matters which are believed in, with certainty and conviction, in one’s heart and soul. They are not tainted with any doubt or uncertainty.

So concerning the answer of your question I can say it's YES and NO.

Depending on whether ur belief is based on evidences or not so:
- If you believe on sth that's evidenced for more than 100% by ur mind, the answer of ur question will be NO
- If you believe on sth with no evidences, the answer will be YES

Let me give u an example that will explain my point:
we as muslims believe that the Qur'aan is the word of Allah based on so many evidences as esplained in this link http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=13804&ln=eng
so with faith alone (which is more than enough) we are completely sure in Qur'aan's content.

Yes. That's how I feel. Every single one of us could be wrong and I accept that. I view faith more as having hope that things will turn out a certain way. That's about as far as I can go with 'faith'

That is why it is called FAITH. Hebrews 11, "Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the EVIDENCE of things NOT seen."
It is all about believing.

We should. Do we?

We believe lots of things that aren't true: Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy, spider eggs in bubblegum, wet hair makes you catch cold, Elvis lives...

Just because you believe something doesn't make it true, no matter how many times you repeat it.

We are very much alike. I say this same statement to those who believe the faith based theory of evolution.

Faith in God has to be received from God, and when God gives inner assurance of it, we know we receive it.

It is best to not have faith in a lie.
