Nasty group this morning.
Don't bite him or put Tabasco on his poor little mouth, imitating his behavior is telling him 'see, mommy does it too'
Do take him away from his bitten person and with real command in your voice say "NO that's bad". You will know you have said it mean enough when he stops, stares at you and his face crumples up and he cries. Feel free to practice this BAD BOY voice till you scare the stuffing out of the postman. You don't have to even yell, just the tone should be enough. Try to remember how your mother sounded when she did it, if she did it. But certainly you should be able to convince a one year old you mean business without torture.
Very young children can't realize the consequences of their actions yet so taking his toy away may make him feel bad but that won't have anything to do in his mind with biting someone.
Since hes teething, give him pretzels to chew on.

My daughter is going through the same thing right now. Her brother used to let her climb on top of him and just beat his head up. At that time it didn't hurt..she was 6 months. But she learned from him that was the way to show love. She'll slap you, than smile all big. It's hard as hell to slap her back, cause of this. But you have to. Or they'll learn that its okay to do that to people. When you bite him back, make sure you tell him why you're doing it. "You can't bite mommy like that...it hurts."

well, if he is biting on the hands there are several products on the market to make things taste bad so they wont want to bite them or suck on them, but it is possible that he is teething and just needs a more appealing teether, bowls of crushed ice might work. I find vinegar is also a harmless detourant for kids. You could have every one wash their hands in it as they come over or you could simply place some on your clean finger and give him a taste as a punishment every time he bites someone. Most kids hate the taste and it absolutely will not hurt them. Good luck!

I really hate to say this but it has worked for me and my friends...you have to bite them back....soi they can feel the pain of someone biting you and then soon they will realize they don't like been bitten and will stop...but it won't stop suddenly it will take a few good bite...i'm not telling you to bite the crap out of them just tough enough to make them say ouch..

Every time he bites you or someone, have a small bottle of Franks Red Hot or Tabasco sauce inyour pocket. Place a few dashes on your finger tips and rub his lips and make sure you get the tongue.

He will stop immediately!

If this doesn't work, I think someone here recomended a muzzle...

I have friends who have kids that do this. All I can say is, when you discipline, the key is consistantcy. Swat him on the back of the hand and say "no", and stick with that. Yes, he/she is going to get mad, but they should learn biting IS a NO NO. Whatever discipline you choose, stick with it. Most of my friends kids are brats because they let them run wild and don't discipline. Some of them try that kind of stuff with me, and I do discipline, the parents have never said a word to me on it, if anything; they've backed me up; but I don't think that's what you want though =)

bite him back not hard but just enough so he knows it hurts, or put something like pepper in his mouth after he bites maybe that will make him stop

**this was MY trick. the professionals say this is a no-no, but it stopped my son from biting.**

when he would bite me or someone around me, i would bite him back. not hard enough to break the skin or leave a mark, but just hard enough to make him realize it hurts others.

I know it sounds mean, but you could try biting him back, not too hard to leave a bruise, but enough to hurt. Sometimes that works.
