I will be 29 years old in March 07. I have an associates degree as a Networking Specialist and I will become a citizen of the US in Dec 07.

Besides passing the testing is there anything else that is holding me down?

You will need to become a second lieutenant first. In order to become a 2nd lieutenant, you need to get an officers' commission which is typically done in conjunction with earning a bachelor's degree (BA) and by participating in an ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) program.

If you want to achieve this without getting a BA, I suggest you talk to a recruiter about your associates' degree and see if you can get into OCS (Officers' Candidate School) which is the program through which an enlisted man in the Army can become an officer.

You are not a US citizen? I suspect you will need to become one first as well. What is your country of origin? In this day and age, that might come into play as well.

Officers usually are people with Bachelor's Degrees. Many Officer's have Ph. D's. But I DO know that to become a first lieutenant you have to first be a second lieutenant. I would start with a local recruiter. Good luck !

Everyone who goes into the military goes through basic training, and if you want to be an officer, you have to go through Officer's Candidate School [OCS]. Once you graduate from OCS, then you are commissioned a 2Lt. or an Ensign [Navy]. From there you have to work for your promotion to 1Lt.

If you were a college student enrolled in an ROTC program, you can get your military training while in college, while pursuing your degree, and be commissioned a 2Lt upon graduation.

I think you have to have a your bachelor's degree to be an officer. Then you have to apply to OCTS (officer's canidate training school) after passing you will be a 2nd Lt. After time you become a 1st Lt. I think my brother was promoted in a year or less.

Basically what she said. Get a commission as a 2LT and spend about 2 years in grade with good performance and you should be eligible for a promo to 1LT.

you need to have at least 90 credit hours of college to go to OCS in the army, and finish your bachelors before you could get promoted to captain. It will be a long road for you, but worth it.
