This is one of the tougher medical specialties. You would need to be a graduate of a 4 year medical school (after you finish your four year Bachelor's degree in science). Then after med school you have to do a residency before you are allowed to work on your own.

These guys make a lot of money, but their job is very stressful. You are personally responsible for managing the chemicals and drugs that keep people asleep during operations. Imagine if you screwed up!!!! You have to really know exactly what you are doing all the time when you work with these dangerous materials and you are holding a person's life in your hands. THis is NOT a good job for someone who is anything less than very smart and very responsible about their studies.

Anesthesiologists are medical doctors who specialize in administering anesthesia, which can include analgesia (blocking the conscious perception of pain), hypnosis (producing unconsciousness), amnesia (preventing memory formation), and relaxation (preventing unwanted movement or muscle tone).

Basically their job is to keep you from feeling any pain during surgery. They go through medical school just like any other doctor, but because they are specialists in their field they usually stay in school/training longer than general doctors. They work in hospitals.

It is a doctor who puts the patient under when they are going to have surgery. Then during the surgery, they stay there and monitor the patient's breathing and vital signs. They are sort of like your guardian angel while you're under the knife.
