I had two cats brothers, one needed to be put to sleep. A week later he started to cry in the early morning. I call out to him,he comes and I pet him, but he only stays for a few minutes and runs off and starts crying again. It's not food and he has been neutered for 15yrs. Is he just depressed and this will pass in time? What can I do?

Awww! He sound so sad!! He has been with his brother for 15 years and is sad and crying. He is mourning and like the others said on here, you have to be kind and loving to him and hopefully this will pass with some time. I would try all the things suggested like a stuffed animal in his cat bed, giving him extra love and attention, and maybe getting another companion for him. Although the new cat may stress him out further...I would ask my Vet and see what is suggested. In the meantime give him a lot of love from all of us out here!

Easy to work out Does she stop when you feed her? Does she stop when you pet her? Does she stop when you let her out? Cats are usually quite good at showing exactly what they want, my cat had cyctitus and was crying a lot... As others have mentioned she may be in heat, in which case you will have to bare the wining. If in doubt you should take her to the vet, you will probably have to pay, but it's always better better to be safe than sorry.

I had a similar experience with my cat when her sister was killed. Animals DO go through a period of mourning/grief when they lose someone (in this case a brother) and it does take time. It may be irritating right now, but it should pass. Until then, keep being supportive...

Try putting a stuffed animal in its bed to keep it company... this has worked for me for both cats and dogs.

He's probably lonely and looking for his brother. I'm sure he misses him! Have you thought about getting him a companion? Might help.

he probably is depresed and it may or may not pass. if he is really devastated he might even die of a broken heart. you can always try getting him a new friend. that might help.
