Have you ever thought about getting an accountability partner; a Christian who is a little older than you are who you can trust. This can be a real blessing to both of you. It is great to have somebody who can encourage you to resist your temptations in the areas that you are weakest.

Keep giving your best effort to live a life that appeals to the lord. A few suggestions...Go to church on a consistent basis, find time to read the bible every day (even if it is just for 10-25 minutes), surround yourself by people who will lift you towards Christ (look into your church. They may have events/prayer groups/activities that you can join to help bond you with fellow Christians). I think it is admirable that you want to be a better person and distance yourself from things that can lead you down the wrong path. Just remember that everyone struggles with this. Even the most good hearted people battle with sin on a daily basis. The more you strengthen your relationship with God, the less likely you are to give into evil temptations. Remain humble, acknowledge your need for God's help in making the right decisions/living a meaningful life.

God knows that we are weak.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

He also sees so many Christians in the same position you are in.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

And He also wonders why He is called upon when His word is not obeyed.

Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Here are a few more scritpures that might help you see what you are doing in God's eyes...

Psalms 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Proverbs 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Here's the thing... Because you have been born again. Your eyes have been opened to God's truth. God must always be first in your life. His word must be first in your life. You fall into the devils trap because when you became born again, you did not rid yourself of your old sinful ways and friends and habit. You must turn your back on those who aren't living accroding to the word of God.

1 Thessalonians 3:14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

When ever you get the desire to go and do what you know God does not approve of. Pick up your Bible and start to read it. You can even wear a rubberband on your wrist, and every time you get an impulse to do what you know :God does not approve of, snap that rubberband against your wrist by picking it up and letting it go and the sting will remind you that you are thinking along the lines of unrigheous living. You want to know what you can do to better or strengthen yourself?

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Talk to God every day, and study His word every day.Get into Church and change your old way of doing for God's way. It won;t happen over night, but God will make the transition easier for you when you show Him how serious you are about this. I will be praying for you too!

God bless you

I don't normally overwhelm people with Bible passages, but the following section from the book of Romans talks about the very thing you are wrestling with:

Roman 7:15 - 17...."I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it."

There is a popular saying that goes, "Christians aren't perfect, they're forgiven". That is, we ALL struggle with the desires of our human nature. It seems the more we try to "do what is right", the more difficult our struggle becomes. What can you do? Nothing! We simply will never attain perfection through our own efforts. Therefore, I would suggest simply remembering the following truths:

1) Your actions will never be perfect. Accept that fact, confess your shortcomings/failures, and give thanks to Christ:

Romans 8:1-2...."Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death."

Our perfection is found in Christ, not in our own actions. If Christ does not condemn you, then you should not "beat yourself up" for your past failures.

2) Don't look for "changing your actions"...ask God to change your heart and the things you desire:

Romans 8:5&6...."Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind controlled by the sinful nature is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace."

3) don't "do guilt"..confess your mistakes, learn from them, and go forward:

Philippians 3:13&14..."I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. "

God bless...

Okay, well praying may help, I dont know. I tried it and it never worked for me (that I consciously know). I have never had drinking problems but I see no problem being a Christian and going to parties and getting drunk. Why? Well, Jesus made wine for everyone (not alittle bit, barrels of it). People used to party for like a week straight back then, and they definately smoked cannabis. I do believe in moderation, which isnt a quantitative value that is equal for all people. The first step to changing is to seek to change. As long as your trying you are improving.

There isn't anything in the bible that says Jesus drank wine , he just made it. Additionally, how do we know how much alcohol content was in the wine or if there was any at all. I believe moderation is the key and self discipline will really help. Take a deep breath and count to ten, then go on with what you feel is right. Keep praying and you will succeed

Surround yourself by Christians who are good influences. Talk to others in your church who have struggled with the same. Study God's Word and commune with others when church is in. We (Christians) all struggle with sin. You will probably sin most everyday for the rest of your life. You will NOT be perfect until you reach Heaven.

Hey! FIRST OF ALL< you get major props for even recognizing that you aren't right on track. You are trying, God knows who's trying and who doesn't even care. So congratulate yourself, you're at least stepping on the right path to our Lord. You are all right girl, you don't hurt people right? You aren't glad at calamities, right? You want to be good right? Pray sister, pray for the strength to say no.

To be perfectly honest, I have the same issue with drinking, but actually, God just seems to condemn (in the bible anyways) being drunk, like ignorant drunk. I don't know about you, but being drunk makes me happy, always has. I don't hurt people or curse at people when I 'm drunk, sometimes, you know that climax of being drunk before you get sick ( or the spins ) ? I actually feel really close to God, because I'm not inhibited, scared, or mad. And I thank Him for the blessings He has given me. (My son -4-drives me quite literally to drink) I love God, I see you love God, as you have expressed that you want to be right w/Him. You are trying, now just pray for strength, sincerely, and you will receive what you ask.:o] Faith.
