In Ireland it's called Poteen or Poitin but in the US it's usually called Putcheen.
Contrary to some other answers it's pronunced po-teen, somehow in the US it's been Americanized and the spelling and pronunciation changed.

Hello,
It is called poteen, and it is pronounced potcheen, now you take it very easy with this stuff, it is very very potent and will hurt or upset you if you consume too much of it, and as for tasting of potatoes, I think not, it just taste horrible and does a lot of damage to your internals, if drank to excess. I would say if 1976 was the last time you drank any, then Sir, you have had your share, but if you insist, I can only reiterate, please go easy on it, but do please enjoy it.................Tony M

That would be poteen or poitin (pronounced "pot-cheen"), named after the "little pot" in which it is normally made.
