This will give you an idea of some nation's military spending based on 2006 figures.
U.S.A. - $ 396 Billion
United Kingdom - $ 42.8 Billion
China - $ 35 Billion
Russia - $ 20 Billion
Israel - $ 9 Billion
Iran - $ 6.2 Billion
North Korea - $5.2 Billion
From the figures above, you can tell how much the other countries are spending for their defenses. Look at China and Russia figures for example. It's obvious that to these countries, defense spending is not the top priority.

We spend more on defense then the entire world combined. yet you want to spend more! Just how do you propose to pay for this increase and all the future increases. It's more than time to stop being the worlds cop if they aren't going to help flip the bill. What we need to do is get out of Iraq and repair our worn out equipment and troops and then concentrate on salvaging Afghanistan that won't be as costly as Iraq.

Well we do have a small military that relies on being in front on military technology. So since we have a Democratic majority in Congress I am sure we will not have any pork barrel politics handing out money to contractors because there is never any corruption when the Dems are in charge, so they say. So if the Dem Congress wants to boost the mililtary budget I guess it would be for all the best reasons.

The US cannot even defend its spending on the Iraq war. How could it possibly boost its spending on defense?

What about spending here in America. Foreclosures are up, people are struggling. Schools are closing. I can't be the only one that sees this.

With NK developing long range missles and Iran trying to get a nuke, I would say yes. They need to invest in anti-nuke technologies.
