In no more than six years, one female dog and her offspring can produce over sixty-seven thousand puppies. A female cat and her offspring can produce up to four hundred twenty thousand kittens in just seven years. In the U.S. alone, over eighteen million, two hundred fifty thousand kittens and puppies are born each year. About forty-five percent of them are sent to shelters or pounds. Five million of them are demolished because nobody can find homes for them.
Even if you don’t have a passion for animals, this affects you. It costs United States taxpayers an estimate of two billion dollars each year to round up, give homes to, abolish, and dispose of needy animals.
I'm one of those people who absolutely love animals, I want to do something about the rising population of them. So what will you do about it?

I talk to anyone who will listen to me. I absolutely hate to see animals running around the neighborhood because you know not all of them are fixed. I tell people that if their pets aren't fixed, they should leave them indoors. Especialy cats. I'm a huge cat lover myself. And you know, it's not just because they aren't fixed that they should be kept inside. It's all the other dangers, too. Getting hit by a car, people poisoning them with antifreeze, getting attacked by another animal, etc. I don't know where you live, but where I live, it's only 12 degrees out right now. And people let their pets run loose out in this! They think just because they have fur that they won't get cold or frostbite. I wish people would be more caring and responsible!

I am with you 100%. i know first hand, I work in an over croweded no kill shelter. I don't see why people don't get their animals spayed or neutered, most shelters will do it for a reduced rate or even free.

it reduces some types of cancer if done before the animal reaches sexual maturity. and for females it will keep them from going into heat and have to endour all of that. and males it will keep them from spraying though once they start spraying it is no guarentee it will keep them from spraying. still even if your male cat has started spraying it is still a good idea to get him neutered.

I just can't say enough about this!

I don't have cats. My dog is male and contained at all times.

Have you considered setting up a fund for having pets spayed/neutered for those who are financially challenged? Are your animals fixed? Have you considered educating people about not allowing their animals to run free, especially cats?

One solution. Ban pit bulls. They are the dog of choice of criminals, druggies and other low lifes. These people are very irrespoinsible and not only never fix their pits they let them roam free in the neighborhood which has resulted in a population explosion of pits that are quite dangerous on the lose. Half of the shelters now have pits and pit mixes because of these irresponsible pit owners. Too bad we cant ban the owners like so many pit supporters want, but that is just not possible under current law. Sorry. So ban the pits.

Just keep up what you're doing. Educate people about the necessity to spay/neuter their pets. And promote adoption!!!!
