If you have a beauty supply store nearby (Like Sally's) then that is a great place to buy conditioners that are super close to salon brands-they work just as well and are much cheaper. Get a good thick condititoner for damaged hair and leave it on after you shower and wrap your hair in a towel and leave on for 30 minutes to an hour. You can also buy deep conditioning masks that work real well. You may want to start fresh with a short hair cut to get rid of all the split ends, then use conditioner on the ends regularly. OH! You can also use a ceramic hair straightner-that really smooths the cuticle and keeps it tangle free, but be sure and buy a spray on heat protector if your going to do that! Good Luck!

A trim to remove the split ends. If you have a simple hair cut a bargain place should be able to do this. (e.g. SuperCuts)

If you want to DIY, then take your hair into sections and twist each one. Trim off the split ends that stick out with small scissors like the kind used on babies.

Joico K-Pak is the best shampoo & conditioner for damaged hair.

Weekly intensive conditioning treatments. (K-Pak conditioner can be used every day or as an intensive conditioner.)

Pantene conditioners are a very good drugstore option.

Avoid heat styling as much as possible.

Towel dry your hair with a super absorbent towel, like Aquis or the one made by The Body Shop to make air drying faster or minimize the time needed for blow drying.

Use a wide tooth comb to comb out your tangles as gently as possible after washing. Your hair is at its most vulnerable when it is wet.

Avoid brushing your hair while it is wet. Partially dry your hair before using a styling brush.

Avoid using hair spray or gels. They have alcohol and can dry your hair. They also may your hair stiff. Consider a styling creme or applying a hair protectant before blow drying your hair.

Firstly, trim those split and dead ends! Then condition, condition, condition! Use a deep conditioner that requires heat. If you have a hood dryer, put on the conditioner, cover with a plastic cap and sit under the dryer. Hot oil treatments are inexpensive and they work pretty good. Once conditioned, keep those ends away from heat for a while. Wear a style to keeps the ends tucked under, like a bun. If it's really damaged, you want to leave it alone and let the conditioner repair it. The best way would be to consult a stylist, but that wouldn't be inexpensive. Good luck!

Cut off the damaged ends, there is nothing more you can do to split ends.Comb it less, use oil on hair and water based oil lotions, don't use grease; it does nothing really for your hair cause petroluem is bad for your scalp and hair... use more than one type of conditioner; protein and moisturizing and deep... wear a satin fitted cap at night before going to bed and under hats because most of the materials used to make hats, like cotton, is bad for hair, rubs it out. Never wear hair out in the winter, keep it covered from wind and cold, never comb it right after it has been exposed to harsh weather. Don't allow hair to rub against collars of coats, shirts... any material that isn't skin soft. Don't use rubber bands cause they tear hair. And don't allow your hair to become dry and brittle by not washing often enough. Water is your hair's friend. Depends on the type once a week should be alright, rinsing every other day and applying a good moisturizing conditioner is really good for staving off dry split ends.

Looking at your avatar, I'm assuming you are a sista like myself!

So hopefully, this works for you:

Use Pantene Pro V for women of color. The conditioner is really good. But instead of leaving it on for just a few minutes, follow these steps:

Put a nice hand ful of it on your hair. Work from your scalp down to your ends. Wrap it like you were wrapping your hair for bed. Place a plastic (shower) cap on it and blow dry on low for about 5 minutes, or just sit with it on for about 15. It will start to warm up on it's own that way, and soak in real good. Then wash it out and style as you normally would.

This isn't expensive and wouldn't hurt to try!

And you can always like try to go to the salon, (just about any) and get a regular trim. Maybe like once a month if you don't want to spend too much on your hair!

Wish ya the best!!!

Make sure that you use a good conditioning pack. Jenra makes a good one. If you buy an individual packet, it's not too expensive and it smells great too! Also, making sure you get a good trim every 6-8 weeks.

If your hair is like mine, which is very fine, then NEVER use a brush on wet hair. Use a wide tooth comb to untangle your hair and start from the ends and work your way up.

Hope this helps!! :)
