My computer keeps telling me that my Norton has now expired and asking me to resubscribe. Should I do this as it costs £40. I thought when I bought my laptop and got Norton with it that would be the end of it not that I'd have to shell out every year. Are there any other good programmes?

Get a free version, windows is pushing one, should be good.I dont know. clam is good, it is for Linux but I think there is a windows version now that microsoft bought novell.
Grisoft makes one, AVG.
I think CAI is makeing a new free one again.
FProt was allways good.
But no matter what you get, nothing is as good as a standard Backup Routine. Every computer running any AV product, commercial or free can and most likely did crash at some point for some reason, so make a backup and then rest easy as you back up every 3 days. 4 CD-RWs is all it takes.

Norton always runs out ever year that how they make money.
However not to worry the following are free software (freeware) that is 100 % safe to use and do the job:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Avast Home Edition v. 4 (Free)

or

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
AVG Free

Of course Norton will provide the best cover but you will have to pay again.

if you got some extra cash to spend, try to subscribe something else ,theres much better antivirus programes than norton, like avast,, i read alot of good reviews bout it. or if u decide to just live freely, heres some steps u can do.:
1. download avast free 4 home edition- its the best free anti virus around.
2.disconnect/disble your internet connection
3.uninstall your norton antivirus
4.install avast
5.for added protection, download spybot, its fre too
..all of that u can download from www.download.com
hope this helps!

Seriuosly uninstall norton and get Avg,,,Avg is free but it doesnt cover your email, spyware and adware but you can goto http://xtremware.t35.com and Avg Full version comes with email scan,Virus protection and spyware and adware protection which Avg would charge you between $30-$50 but go there and you get it for free and free updates untill the year 2112,,thats what im using.
