I'm flying from Sweden to Greece, but I have to catch a connecting flight in London. I was just wondering if I'd have to go through security and customs in the U.K. if I only need to catch a connecting flight out of the country. It would be nice if I didn't.

If you are just "connecting through" a country, I do not think that they will require that you go through immigration there. You may possibly have to go through security again, but I believe that immigration (customs and security) are required in your country of origin and your ultimate destination. If you were to overnight in London, and leave Heathrow or wherever for the night, you would then have to do immigration, customs and security. Check with your airline(s) that you are traveling with to be sure. (Plus, some countries have domestic security issues that require an extra screening -- IE: when I flew in Australia, no additional security. But, when I boarded an Australia to US flight, I was screened for liquids on my body and in my carry-on handbags; also, when I flew in Mexico, no additional screening, but when I flew from Guadalajara to the US, I was checked for liquids at the gate).

Yes, you most definitely will have to go through a security screening again. You won't have to go through customs and immigration unless you leave the transit or departure area. I fly internationally about once a month with connecting flights most of the time, every time I have had to go through the screening process to reach my connecting flight. You will be arriving in London at the arrivals level and at some point will have to transfer to the departure and transit area, and in every airport I've been through, this is where you will have to go through security screening again, as well as show your passport and boarding pass. So keep your jewelry and metals off until you're on the flight to Greece. I don't mind it, only because it's just another safety measure that helps to insure safety for you and everbody else, in the world that we live in today. Have a good trip!

With today's change in security you just never know, don't be surprised if you have to.
We went to the Dominican Republic our final destination was Punta Cana , we landed in Puerto Plata to drop off passengers. Upon landing we were all told to grab our bags, everyone leave the plane, go through their customs and head back to the exact same plane. A day later our family was scheduled to come didn't have to get off the plane like we were required to. Go figure that one out.

As long as you remain in the same airport, no. Unfortunately sometimes there are connections that involve landing at Heathrow and leaving from Gatwick. The bus service is quite good but in those cases, you do have to do customs and security again.

Check with your airline - they should be able to clarify your travel situation. But usually, once you are inside the secure zone, as long as you don't leave it you do not have to go through those formalities again.
