To my question, IS THE BIBLE NECESSARY?http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070205100253AAu1GoR&r=w:

*If you don't read the bible how can you believe in Christianity in the first place?

*The alleged divine revelation foretelling the coming of Christ relies on the bible-take it away and there is nothing to believe in.

*If not for the Bible, how would we know there even IS a Holy Spirit?

Don't you guys realize you don't need a book to know God?God is so much bigger than a book. Do you honestly think God doesn't have better ways of getting through to us? Especially since many people before 4-500 years ago couldn't even read?

AMEN

I find getting closer to god is a lot easier that it is going through a confusing contradicting Bible.

If god is pure love, then I can't be close to him if I hate myself.
And by reading the bible, knowuing how awfull of a person me, and the rest of the world is, I can't help but to hate myself. And I found one I let go of that, God's beemn there the whole time.

I think people whio say you aren't a real christian if you don't read the bible are the types of people who need a 2,000 year old book to tell them when to breath.

Except my statement "The alleged divine revelation foretelling the coming of Christ relies on the bible-take it away and there is nothing to believe in." wasn't a matter of my personal opinion-it's basic philosophy. Revelation is the only logical basis for defending Christianity and that requires scripture.

God gave us His Word. It is written down for us in a book called the Bible. It is a complete revelation and prophecy of God. Today God only speaks to us through His Word. Without His Word how would we know that the Lord Jesus Christ left glory and came to earth as a man so He could die for our sins and be buried and took our sins away and He rose again the third day for our justification. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. How could we have faith in what He done for us if we didn't hear the gospel and believe it.We can know that there is a God by looking at His creation but if we don't have His Word we could not put our faith in what He did for us on the cross. Romans 10: 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. He tells us to study His Word to be approved of Him 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I’ve heard others say that, even though they have not made a thorough study of the Bible. But since the Bible clearly says that it is a message from God himself and that he offers us eternal life if we believe and live by what it says, don’t you agree that it would be worthwhile at least to examine it to find out whether its claims are true or not?

I don't know about all that but I floored a question I have to give a best answer to and all the answers absolutely stink. They sound like they were answered by the minimum security wing of a Federal Prison! You get no out either as in ' no best answer ' ! Ick!

no it is not wrong to disagree but a person needs to look for reasons to agree or disagree God gave each of us a portion of faith leaving it by choice up to us whether we follow Him or not/He left us the bible as a road map we are to be ambassadors in His kingdom(His way of doing things) His love is so much for us He gave us power of discernment so we could know right from wrong

One cannot have God for his Father, who will not have the Church for his Mother, and likewise, one cannot have the Word of God for his faith who will not have the Church for his teacher. It is the infallible teaching authority of the Church, as promised by Christ, which alone preserves God's Word from erroneous interpretation.

I've often distilled that line of thinking to, "Assuming there is a God, what makes him the God of Abraham?"
