my cat gave birth to 4 kittens 9 weeks ago. we gave 3 away last week. the thing is that their father also lives with us and we kept him too along with one of the babies, but now he meows more often and so does the mama cat. are they going to be sad for a long time? do they ever get over this? what about the baby we kept, is he going to miss them aswell? are his parents going to treat him differently? please help

take a breath. they will be fine. mother is just looking for them because she isnt used to them not comming when she calls she will get over this and so will dad. they are just adjusting. baby will be fine and mom and dad will still treat kitty lovingly and teach baby what it needs to know. dont worry this is natural. its hard to watch at times because you feel so bad but its fine they will be fine.

Your cats are not stupid. Of course they know the other kittens are not there. They will be looking for them and miss them for a while. But they will get over it and they will not treat the kitten left any differently. The mama does stop being "motherly" to the kittens after they stop nursing, but this doesn't mean they will not get along after that, usually they get along very well.
I would probably take the mama to see the kittens, to explain that they are OK, but I don't know if this would be the best, I am alittle paranoid with cats sometimes.

You should have both cats sterilized and the kitten too. One litter is more than enough with so many homeless cats. Overpopulation is a serious issues for felines and no one should allow their cats to breed.

The mother cat will reject the baby when she has them weaned so you may find they won't get along too well in the same household. The cats will not be "sad" that the kittens are gone. As long as the mother cat completed her nursing and weaning of her kittens she is just as happy they are gone as not.

well, first off, get those spayed and neutered right away so you don't have this happen again. you should have done this before she got pregnant. yea the momma gets over it but it probably is hard on her for a while and the poor kittens that have to get separated from eachother....at least they are young enough that they too will get over it but too bad they all had to go through that when if you had gotten your cats spayed and neutered they wouldn't have to deal with all of this.

What is so hard about getting your animals spayed and neutered, then there won't be so many unwanted animals out there and the animals will live happier healthier lives.

Someone said to get the neutared and spayed-

I agree

Overpopulation is an issue and there are millions of stray cats out there- letting the cat have babies is sad becuase you know you're not going to keep them all. Too many people don't get their cats spayed/neutered and they end up having babies that are given away, thrown away, lost or died for various reasons.

She will get over it. People say cats don't have feelings, but they do. My kitten was just fixed and has to be in cage for 5 days...she is used to sleeping with us...so I am sleeping on the floor next to her cage getting no sleep because of the noise....just to keep her company because I feel so bad for her. I am exhausted, but I will not let poor little kitty suffer. (she is sleeping right now, and if I were smart I would sleep too)

Yes They will both get over this. Our momma's usually get back to normal within a week or so!! The fact that you kept one should help!!

my mother cat cried until she had another litter of kittens. they do know that their children are gone and like anyone they will miss them. the kitten will miss it's siblings but the more attention you give them all the sooner they will get back to their normal selves.
