Distilled water is boiled and condensed. That's very effective in removing minerals, but some contaminants can be transported by organic contaminants that simultaneously boil and condense.

Deionized water uses minerals that grab onto ions and hold them. That works a little bit better.

For consumers, distilled water is pure enough for most all purposes. For scientists doing research or semiconductor companies making computer chips, the greater purity of deionized is a good thing.

Deionized water has the ionic content sharply reduced by reverse osmosis or similar techniques, but still has a slight mineral content. For precise analytical work, use distilled water, which has essentially everything other than water removed. Deionized water is cheaper, and can be used for general purposes such as cleaning glassware.

Distilled water has been heated to boiling and the steam is condensed to remove all non-volatile impurities (usually salts).

Deionised water is purified by passing through an ion exchange resin, which exchanges inorganic ions for HO- or H+. It is thus possible that depending on the water source the deionised water might have a different pH.

Distilled water is gathered by evaporation. Deionized water is purified by a chemical filtration system that removes trace elements.

Distilled water it is just water, without salts or other, obtained by distillation.Deionized water contains no ions, plus or minus.
