I make homemade buttermilk biscuits......when I get extra buttermilk like you have, I make a whole bunch of biscuits and freeze them. When you need just a few (or alot) take out just what is needed.
Also, if you like to deep fry, coating in the buttermilk first creates a fantastic crust. Great for chicken tender and cubed steak....I'm southern, we fry alot of stuff.

Buttermilk is great for making breads and pancakes. I've used it often for pancakes and cornbread. It seems to make them taste better. I don't like the taste of buttermilk, but as an ingredient inside various things, it's fine.

Mashed potatoes, biscuits, pancakes, breads, and salad dressings. Epicurious.com has a good one for basil buttermilk dressing.
Or you can feed it to my husband who can drink it straight out of the carton. Ick!

Go to www.allrecipes.com and search for recipes that use buttermilk. For future reference, you can buy a powdered buttermilk in the baking aisle.

Are you sure that it is not a quart? I have never seen it sold in gallons. You could drink it or you could use it in cooking. There are plenty of baking recipes where it can go instead of milk.

For future reference you don't have to buy buttermilk for recipes.
You can substitute regular milk and add vinegar or lemon juice to it.
