I don't think it is absolutly necessary, but I also think you are missing out on alot of important lessons if you don't know it.

Someone who read the bible, taught you about God and the Holy Spirit. Now as for Christians, the New Testament part of the Bible is central to the faith and the Old Testament is needed too.
Without a bible, somwhere, sometime, the info about God and The Holy Spirit anf Jesus, etc just wouldn't be there. Christians need the bible entire, Muslims need the Old Testament and the Quran and Jews need the Tanakh (what most of us think of as The Old Testament). All three faiths share the same God, but rely on these texts to support and enhance those beleifs.
So...
Yes, it is needed.

The Bible is the living Word of God, aka Jesus. It's the love letters to the Bride (the church) - It's lessons to teach us, to tell our kids... There is truth in times when the Holy Spirit is hard to hear. It's a place of comfort, It's where you go to seek God. People who don't know Him yet can find Him in the pages of the Bible.
Not everyone hears from the Holy Spirit in the same way. As you read the words, He can open your eyes to a revelation of some sort. Some hear Him audibly, some just have a sense of what He's saying, others hear Him in the Word of God. The Bible was left as a tool for teaching, a place to find answers, a way to search for truth. It is a tool.
Not everyone has a Bible, so yes, God is enough for those people. But for those of us who have it, it is a tool we should use. We never know it all, I know people who have been hard core Christians for 30 years, constantly reading the Bible over and over, yet they still find new things in there. We're always in a new season, so different parts will speak differently, depending on your current situation. It's overflowing with new revelations.

If not for the Bible, how would we know there even IS a Holy Spirit? We look at nature around us, at leaves, at a new born baby, and we KNOW that there is a God, but we don't know how to please Him and find salvation just by looking at a snow flake or a flower. Yes, we do need a book. Besides, you wouldn't be a whiz at higher math WITHOUT the basics beforehand, so there is no comparison here.

Yes, but how would one have become a math whiz in the first place? Studying. People seem to know a lot about God these days, Christian or not. All of that knowledge comes from the Bible. Imagine how uninformed people would be if we were without it. If you had a father, but he passed away while you were young, wouldn't you like him to have left behind something to read about him? Not to say our God has passed away, but asking people about your father would not do justice. It'd be nice to read something he actually wrote. An autobiography of sorts. Oh, and I appreciate your note on the question being non-offensive. Many could have taken that wrong. :)
God Bless,
Caleb

Once we are a believer- the Bible is a guide that the Holy Spirit speaks through to point us to Him, and how we are to become like Hi, The Bible is not like any other book, written by man, it is God-breathed. Yes, you can know God through His Spirit, but He speaks through His Word. An algebra book does not speak words from God, only formulas- once you learn formulas you got it, but each and every day, because God's word is active and living, it can be fresh every day. Until we reach heaven, we will not know EVERYTHING there is to know about God. He is infinite and almighty.

In John 17:17 the Lord prays that we be sanctified through Gods truth, and then states that God's Word is truth. Jesus is called the Word in John 1:1 and was made flesh in v. 14. 2Timothy 3:17-18 also tell us of the nature and purpose of the scriptures. Yes the Bible is necessary.

God guides us with the bible. oh and the Holy Spirit talks to me, but a bible verse would come to me like Matthew 1:7 thats how I stay in touch. And just because we're Christian doesn't mean we know everything! WE ARE NOT PERFECT if you haven't already noticed!
but besides that....
*Live long, and God help you!

The Bible is totally necessary. The bible is God's word. Humans need it to study the way of God and how to get to Heaven.
Without it there would probably be even more chaos throughout the world, and lots of people would parish because of their lack of knowledge about God.

We do not know everything there is to know about christainity so yes the bible is necessary. I enjoy reading the bible and hearing God's words aswell as listening to the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is just there to help us decide what is right and wrong and the bible helps us to explain about christainity. So therefore we do not know everything there is to know about it and it's good to have a book to help us learn it. I know there's other saved sinners out there like me who enjoy opening the bible up and reading a scripture as well as worshipping God. We also listen to the Holy Ghost but having the bible helps us out.

The bible is necessary because some people cannot tell the difference between their emotions and the Holy spirit, or the difference between their ways and desires and God's ways and desires.... so we need more instruction.
